April News: "Everything you can imagine is real." Pablo Picasso This is one of those fundamental quotes that rings true to me. I was thinking in those terms when I was making the two new oils shown below (and a cropped fragment above). They both took a lot more time than usual and all the while, I was living in those scenes and creating a constantly evolving world.  During that painting process, a part of me was living in those spaces. I was moving around while the rain came down in Softly Lit Veils, and in the instance of Green and Blue Diagonals, exploring the dense patterns with their slow-to-reveal colors. As it turns out, the more I was present in the oil, the more time it took to put that imaginary world onto the canvas.  Once the oils are done, they become the art object, but not the portrait of a place. Each oil becomes a location with a unique feeling that never existed before. There is a great joy in that! Please note that for the first time since covid, I will be teaching two workshops this May. One will be in Nebraska and the second with Paula Hansen in the Denver metro.
